What’s really going on in net zero boardroom conversations?

An interactive site developed with Kantar gives you a sneak peek into non-executive directors’ views of what’s happening in their boardrooms around the climate agenda.

We are at a critical inflection point in the decarbonisation journey. Today, 90% of global GDP is covered by net-zero targets. In 2019, this figure was at 16%.

This represents an enormous opportunity for boards to view net zero as a strategic opportunity and embed targets and transition plans throughout the organisation. How many are taking advantage of this? Using a blend of focus interviews and quantitative research, Kantar worked with Chapter Zero to find out.

Check out this interactive site where the findings of the survey are brought to life in a visual and digestible way. Explore the key insights non-executive directors reported on their boards’ progress to net zero. Understand the four accelerators as well as the four blockers that NEDs are experiencing as they grapple with this challenge.

43%

of non-executive directors say one or more of their boards has not yet or does not intend to approve a transition plan in the next financial year.

This research represents a fascinating snapshot of corporate progress to net zero at this critical moment in time. It also points the way to the one biggest indicator of success in transition planning: collaboration.

How does this compare with your personal experiences in your board?

Thank you to all our members who participated in this survey, with special thanks to Nilufer von Bismarck, Simon Henry and Nelson Silva, whose videos you can watch on the site.
