Carbon offsetting: exploring nature-based solutions – How can whales help combat the effects of climate change (presentation available)

October 18, 2021 @ 8:30 am – 10:00 am BST

Strategies to avoid, reduce and substitute harmful greenhouse gases are a priority in the transition to net zero. Where organisations cannot however eliminate all emissions offsetting is one way to neutralise residual emissions generated from their activities, or elsewhere in their value chain.

In this webinar, the first in a new offsetting series, nature-based carbon offsetting solutions will be discussed. People often think about reforestation when they think about offsets. In this session an alternative option will be explored – whale conservation and the role whales can play in combatting the adverse effects of climate change. The discussion will cover how a nature based solution could form part of  your organisation’s climate action strategy.

Speakers:
Chris Butler-Stroud, CEO of WDC,
Dr Heidi Pearson, Associate Professor of Marine Biology, University of Alaska,
Ralph Chami, Assistant Director, International Monetary Fund.
