How Chapter Zero's impact shows up in case studies

Equipping and inspiring non-executive directors to lead on climate from the boardroom results in individual members and their boards taking climate action. This is Chapter Zero's purpose. We can track this impact through individual case studies. A collection of these impact case studies is set out below.

Brand, purpose, vision and climate

Brand and communications are intrinsic to climate action. In this series of videos, Vicky Moffatt spoke to Rita Clifton CBE, Portfolio Chair and Non-executive Director, about businesses maintaining momentum on purpose, effective communications, building vision through pre-competitive and radical collaboration, empathy and courageous leadership, as well as communicating creatively to spark action.

AI, climate, data and energy

Addressing AI, understanding its ability to solve climate and other questions, learning about the data that informs the models and thinking through the energy required to power them are  burning issues for boards. Non-executive directors will be thinking about these issues in the context of capex, supply chains, products, markets and their fiduciary duty generally. It is therefore valuable for boards to think hard about their companies’ objectives in using AI, the value it delivers and its repercussions.

Leading with vision on climate

We invited non-executive directors and Chairs to have conversations with their executive leaders about decarbonising their businesses and the systems in which they operate. We filmed those conversations so that other non-executive directors, Chairs and senior leaders can watch how other leaders are masterminding decarbonisation while generating value for their businesses. This video series, in effect, explores what transition planning means in practice. It reframes climate action from primarily a regulatory imperative focusing on reporting, to a forward-looking strategic exercise for long-term business resilience.

Spotlight COP30: contribution or conversation?

COP30 is the 30th United Nations Climate Change conference, to be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. It might not be a mainstay of boardrooms agendas but it will bring together world leaders, scientists, non-governmental organisations and civil society to discuss climate change. Apart from talking about efforts to slow global temperature increases, COP30 will focus on new national action plans (NDCs) and progress on COP29 finance pledges. Importantly, of note to boardrooms is that COPs are landmark occasions that drive private sector action.

Spotlight: Chapter Zero closes the market at LCAW 2025

Chapter Zero had the honour of closing the market at the London Stock Exchange during London Climate Action Week 2025, thanks to LSEG’s Don Robert and David Harris who hosted the event. The agenda included insights from Julie Baddeley, who closed the market as one of her final activities as Chair of Chapter Zero, and CEO Vicky Moffatt for her fascinating conversation with Martin Scicluna, Chair of Sainsbury's. Everyone from Chapter Zero’ new Chair, Tom Delay CBE, as well as the board, Fellows and members made it a very special occasion.
