WEF: 2024 Global Risks Report
The 2024 Global Risks Report from the World Economic Forum, published on 10 January 2024, highlights climate as one of the top risks economies and societies are facing both in the near and long term.
Over a 2-year time frame, extreme weather events are ranked as the second most severe risk, after misinformation and disinformation.
Over a 10-year time frame, the top 4 most severe risks are listed as:
- Extreme weather events
- Critical change to Earth systems
- Biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse
- Natural resource shortages
For Non-Executive Directors, who have the long-term view in mind and play an integral role in shaping the strategy and risk management of their organisations, these findings are a clear reminder how important it is that climate remains at the top of the Board agenda too.
